Our story
A barbershop in an old leather works.
Tanner & Strop opened in 2014 inside a former leather workshop on Tanner's Yard. Since a barber's razor is sharpened on leather, the name practically picked itself. Look up when you walk in, the original ceiling hooks are still there.
How we got here
Twelve years, one shop floor.

2014
A leather works becomes a shop
Thabo signed the lease on 18 Tanner's Yard and built the main cutting bench out of the old tannery counter.

The chairs fill up
By our fourth year, five barbers were cutting six days a week, with Saturday mornings booked weeks in advance.

Eleven barbers, same approach
We've grown, but every barber on the team works the same way: listen first, don't rush, and pay attention to detail.

We talk through what you want and what works with your hair before touching a clipper.

Honest timing
We stick to schedule. Your time in the chair is yours—we never double-book.

Pay however you like at the chair. Tips go straight to your barber.
